Titanic: The Story of the Unsinkable Ship
The RMS Titanic was the largest and most luxurious passenger ship ever built at the time of its launch in 1911. It was designed to be unsinkable, and its maiden voyage was supposed to be a triumph. But on the night of April 14, 1912, the Titanic struck an iceberg and sank to the bottom of the North Atlantic Ocean.

Construction
The Titanic was built by the Harland and Wolff shipyard in Belfast, Ireland. It was the second of three Olympic-class ocean liners, the others being the RMS Olympic and the HMHS Britannic. The Titanic was 882 feet long and 108 feet wide, and it weighed over 46,000 tons. It had a capacity of over 2,400 passengers and crew.
The Titanic was constructed using the latest technology and materials available at the time. Its hull was made of double-layered steel plates, and it had 16 watertight compartments. These compartments were designed to keep the ship afloat even if one or more of them were flooded.
Maiden Voyage
The Titanic set sail on its maiden voyage from Southampton, England, on April 10, 1912. Its destination was New York City, and it was carrying over 2,200 passengers and crew. The voyage started out smoothly, but on the night of April 14, the Titanic struck an iceberg in the North Atlantic Ocean.
The iceberg tore a 300-foot gash in the Titanic's hull, and the ship began to sink. The watertight compartments were designed to keep the ship afloat, but the iceberg damage was too extensive. The Titanic sank in less than three hours, and over 1,500 people died.
Legacy
The sinking of the Titanic was a tragedy that shocked the world. It led to new safety regulations for ships, and it also inspired numerous books, movies, and documentaries. The Titanic remains one of the most famous ships in history, and its story continues to fascinate people to this day.
